"Peanut" Sauce Chicken Wings

Chicken wings are such an easy, fun meal idea. The typical chicken wing is tossed in a buffalo sauce, but I wanted to make something for fun. These wings are tossed in a “peanut” sauce that uses almond butter instead of peanut butter to keep it Whole30 compatible. Any nut butter will work, though, or sunbutter if there is a tree nut allergy in your household. This recipe includes instructions for cooking the chicken wings in the air fryer and the oven.

"Peanut" Sauce Chicken Wings

These chicken wings can be cooked in the oven or the air fryer, and then they are tossed in an almond butter sauce similar to a peanut sauce. They are Whole30 and Paleo compatible.

  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 T cilantro leaves
  • 2 T coconut aminos
  • 1/4 C creamy almond butter (no salt, the only ingredient is almonds)
  • 2 pitted dates, soaked in hot water for 15 minutes
  • 1 tsp red curry paste
  • 3 T avocado oil
  • 2 T rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 T lime juice
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1-2 T hot water

Instructions
  1. Oven Instructions:
  2. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place a cooling rack on top of the parchment paper on the sheet pan.
  3. Sprinkle the chicken wings with salt and pepper and place them on the cooling rack.
  4. Put the sheet pan in the oven and bake for 45-55 minutes. The chicken should be cooked through, no longer pink, and the skin is crispy.
  5. Air Fryer Instructions:
  6. Sprinkle the chicken wings with salt and pepper and place them in the air fryer's basket.
  7. Cook the wings at 370 degrees for 20-30 minutes. The chicken should be cooked through, no longer pink, and the skin is crispy.
  8. Place all the "peanut" sauce ingredients into a high-speed blender or jar wide enough to fit an immersion blender.
  9. Blend everything until it’s fully combined.
  10. Toss the chicken wings in the “peanut” sauce and serve.
